On Saturday August 13, Budokan Dojo in Seattle will be hosting a self defense clinic. This is an opportunity to become a USJF certified self defense instructor. The clinic begins with registration at 7:00 and ends at 5:00 that evening.
I don’t have any additional info at present, but I am planning on attending.

On Saturday August 27, Budokan dojo is hosting an introductory class for referees. This is a good opportunity for anyone who want to become a referee to learn about refereeing in general and practice being a referee with constructive feedback.
The clinic starts with registration at 9:30 and finishes at 2:30.
The cost is $35 including lunch.

Just a note that we are postponing the swimming party originally scheduled for this Saturday as the weather doesn’t look good (this is mostly intended to remind Sensei Oleg who seems unclear on the cancellation).
We may try for July 1 if that works for people.

I am truly honored to announce the promotions of Allen Monroe and Aleksi Lee. Their sustained hard work and dedication has earned them the rank of shodan. I wish I could say things are easier from now on but quite the opposite, we now expect more from them with regard to running the club and contributing to judo.
Their promotions were definitely deserved as they both exemplify what a shodan should be.

This is not judo related but I thought it is worth recognizing the accomplishments of people in judo.

Tournaments don’t get any closer! This is here in Spokane and there is no better way to start the Memorial day weekend.
I encourage everyone to compete. We practice a lot, but this is the opportunity to see how much you have learned against other people.

Aleksi won the 66KG brown belt division at the USA Senior Nationals. His hard work really paid off!

I just wanted to thank everyone who came to the clinic yesterday. Attendance was outstanding.
In particular, I wanted to thank the Senseis Mike and Delynn Purcell for making the clinic possible at all. Also, the members of Columbia Dojo were outstanding!
