Not only did John Yen win his weight division, he also won the grand championship for the tournament.
Very nice John.
Information on Promotions
I am frequently asked “what do I have to do to get promoted?”
To find the answer to this question, you need look no further than the USJF rank requirements. For your convenience, I have posted links here.
You should read and be familiar with these as they pertain to your next promotion.
Various Judo Throws Photos
I just uploaded various Judo throw photos to our photo page I’m currently working on how to put the names of the throws either in the pictures or of a way to be able to list them. Check it out and say any suggestions.
Special Promotion
I clearly remember all of my black belt promotions. I will also always remember this promotion as it is my first promotion to nidan.
I am truly pleased and proud to announce the promotion of John Yen to nidan.
After the promotion, John asked me if I could please take it back. I responded that it is not something I give or take away, he has earned the promotion. All I did was recognize his achievement.
John, congratulations!

3. If you email in your information, you will need to turn in the completed paper work at the time of weigh-in.
4. Everyone will need to bring their USJF card to weigh-in.
5. The entry form is here.
6. If anyone has questions, email me or leave them in the comments.
7. Don’t forget, we have practice Monday.
Coaching & Refereeing Clinic
On Feb. 27, the day after the tournament, Pacific Judo will be hosting a joint coaching and Refereeing clinic. I would encourage everyone who can to go. The information for the refereeing part of the clinic is here!.
Sad News
I just found out that last Thursday Destinee severely burned her leg and was hospitalized for several days. All of us at Spokane Judo hope for her speedy return to health.
We are thinking of her!
Promotion
The best part of teaching judo is seeing the students progress and learn. It is often tempting to take credit for the learning and achievements of the students but the instructor simply provides the opportunity to learn, each student chooses what they wish to do with that opportunity.
As students progress in judo, we start to expect more from them in their giving back to the club in terms of instruction and leadership. An excellent example of such leadership and giving back to the club is Tim Neal. I am quite pleased to announce his promotion to shodan. Not only has Tim given me a chance to see him progress in judo, he continually sets a good example for others in the club and he is always willing to offer his advice and instruction.
Tim, congratulations!
